For Immediate Release: April 24, 2018 Today’s Distracted Driving Operation.
Undercover Officers, as well as Bicycle Officers, were used to stop 126 violators in just three hours. These drivers were observed operating their motor vehicle in violation of Massachusetts General Laws. 81 citations were issued during this three-hour period.
Today’s efforts, in conjunction with our past five day totals, reached a very unsettling total of 222 violations issued. It’s apparent that we still have more work to do. Of the 126 stops made today, only 4 were residents of our community. In this respect, we are pleased and hopeful that our message is getting out to our community members.
Most of the violators were cited for texting. However, some were cited for streaming episodes of old television shows, streaming movies, playing “Pokemon Go”, enjoying a PuPu Platter dinner, as well as face timing a family member.
We want to stress that the officers of the West Bridgewater Police Department will continue to aggressively address this problem through both educational and enforcement options. It is our hope that people realize the inherent dangers Distracted Driving causes those around us, and that people need to “Just Drive.” However, for those we can’t convince, we would like to let them know that we will continue to proactively address this issue within the Town of West Bridgewater.
Let’s just remember that your only purpose when operating a motor vehicle, JUST DRIVE. ... See MoreSee Less
