K9 Officer Richard Flaherty

I have lived in West Bridgewater my entire life. I graduated from WBHS in 1986. After graduation, I began working in construction and then as a marine mechanic.

In the early 90’s, I became interested in training dogs. I went to work for Canine College. While working there, I learned to handle and train dogs, compete in AKC, and the german dog sport of Schutzhund.

In 1997, the West Bridgewater Police Department took over the duties of Animal Control. I was hired as one of the Officers. While working for the Department, I was always fascinated with police work and the different situations that would unfold while working with the police department. I decided to follow in my big brothers foot steps to become a Police Officer. I got hired part time in 1998 and eventually full time in 2002. During my career, I was lucky enough to become one of the first Motorcycle officers for the West Bridgewater Police Department. I am now the K9 Officer for the department and am lucky enough to have a great partner like Tazer.
