Chief Timothy Nixon

Date of Hire 10/19/04

I have been a police officer since 2001. I transferred to West Bridgewater from the  Bridgewater Police Department in 2004. Since transferring, I have spent 12 years as a detective, 7  of which as a Det. Sgt., and I have been a Lt. now for almost 2 years. In addition to my duties as LT, I  am the WEB Task Force Commanding Officer which serves the towns of Whitman, West  Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, Bridgewater and Bridgewater State University. Prior to becoming a  police officer, I worked with the Department of Youth Services and had a brief stint as a High School  Social Studies teacher and football coach at Coyle Cassidy High School. I hold a Master’s of Science  degree in Criminal Justice from Bridgewater State College, and a Bachelor of Science degree in  Criminal Justice also from Bridgewater State College. I am also an FBI LEEDA Trilogy award  recipient.

HOBBIES:

I enjoy camping, spending time with my family, and attending as many of my children’s  sporting and school events as I can. I mostly enjoy coaching and have coached football for over 20  years at the high school and youth level. I am actively involved in youth sports and I am currently  the President of the Bridgewater Youth Football program.

HARDEST PART OF YOUR JOB:

Having your professional life spill over into one’s personal life. It’s a  tough balance of trying to shield your family from some of the negative aspects of policing, while  explaining to your family that they are also perceived in a different light because of what you do.

BEST PART OF YOUR JOB:

I get to come to work every day and make an impact. Currently my  favorite part of my job is running the summer CATS camp. It’s a great opportunity for our officers,  high school athletes, and elementary school athletes to get together and interact with each other in  a non-traditional manner. I truly enjoy what I do and I work with some of the greatest people  around. West Bridgewater is very fortunate to have great Officers who really do care about this  town and its residents.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A POLICE OFFICER:

I have always been dedicated and involved  in the community and this is the ultimate way to make a positive influence in the lives of others.
