Chief Timothy Nixon reports that the West Bridgewater Police Department is investigating after credit card skimmers were located Thursday at a store in town.
On Thursday. Feb. 13, an employee of Trucchi’s Supermarket at 53 East Center St. reported that what was believed to be credit card skimmers had been discovered. A skimmer is an illegal installation on ATMs, fuel pumps or point of sale (POS) systems that allow scammers access to customers’ credit card information.
The skimmers were discovered Feb. 10 by store employees and are believed to have been in place since Feb. 8.
Officers responded, and through an investigation determined that skimmers were attached to two keypads, in Aisle 1 and Aisle 2.
Police have identified the person who placed the skimmers as male.
West Bridgewater Police are aware that skimmers have also been found in stores in Abington, Taunton and New Bedford recently. All of these incidents remain under investigation.
The West Bridgewater Police Department is working with law enforcement partners, including the U.S. Secret Service, on the investigation.
Anyone who has used their credit or debit card at Trucchi’s recently should monitor their credit card statements and report any fraudulent activity immediately.
